Shawl Weaving Artisan - Weaving and Designing

Basic weaves

Objectives : At the end of this exercise you shall be able to
• prepare plain, twill and satin weaves for weaving.

• Warp beam - 1 No. • Graph paper - 1 No.
• Reed - 1 No. • Pencil - 1 No.
• Heald hook - 1 No. • Sharpener - 1 No.
• Handloom - 1 No. • Eraser - 1 No.
PROCEDURE

TASK 1: Construct the plain weave design
Construct the plain weave design on graph paper

1 Construct the plain weave in the point paper (Fig.1)

3 Now based on the design divide the warp threads
into two groups(i.e. first group is 1,3,5,7….: second
group is 2,4,6,8…)
2 Now construct the design, draft and peg plan for the 4 Draw the first group of threads through the heald
plain weave. (Fig 2) shaft 1.
5 Like wise draw the second group of threads through
the heald shaft 2.

TASK 2: Drafting process of plain weave

1 Take the yarn from the first group of the beam. 5 Likewise draw the second group of threads through
2 Insert the heald hook into the heald wire. the heald shaft 1.
6 Likewise draw the second group of threads through
3 Attach the threads on the slot of heald hook.
the heald shaft 2.
4 Now pull the heald hook out.
